The first ever Japan Wake Surf National Competition 2017 was presented by the Japan Wake Surfing Association on May 21st 2017.
This event marks the first CWSA sanctioned wakesurf event in Asia. Held at the Yanmar Sunset Marina on Lake Biwa in Shiga, Japan, an incredible crowd of over 1,200 spectators hit the shoreline to watch the action unfold.
51 Athletes from Japan, South Korea, and Russia threw down their best on a huge Tigé RZX3 wave at this early season event. CWSA Secretary Jon Shields and representative Andrew Stebbins saw a wide range of competition talent in Amateur Men Surf, Amateur Women Surf, Amateur Men Skim, Outlaw Women Combined, and Outlaw Men Surf. Before the event, over 30 members of the JWSA attended and completed the CWSA Judge Training and Rules seminar, which will provide a solid foundation for the growth and progress of the sport in Japan, and Asia.
