Grau du Roi in Southern France was the venue for this season’s fifth World Series of Wake Surfing event, Nautique’s European Wakesurf Tour, powered by FISE.
On home turf Frenchman Sebastien Balland swept the Outlaw Men with wins in both Surf and Skim. Markus Lahmer of Austria was a mere 1 point behind for second in Surf, followed by Germany’s Maximilliam Kawlath. Lahmer also took second in Skim, and England’s Anthony Edwards took third.
On the Women’s side, Jennifer Edwards of England topped the Skim podium. In a tight final, Canadian Nicole Hudson edged out Russia’s Elena Savchenova for second. For Surf, Swiss rider Fanny Clavien came from third in prelims to take the win, Nicole Hudson took another trip to the podim with the second, followed closely by Samar Suleiman of Geneva in third.
The Amateur Men’s Skim division saw narrow margins with only 2.3 points separating the podium. France’s Phillip Zanco grabbed the win, with Swiss rider Javier Iglesias in second and Russia’s Steve Kulagin in third. In Surf, Frenchman Julien Prudencio was on top, with the UK’s George Taylor and Christian Balmer, Switzerand, in second and third, respecitively.
For the Pros, Arizona riders had a strong showing, with Angie Viland and Madi Horta taking second and third for the Women, behind Florida’s Jodi Grassman. Arizonan Connor Burns was second to California native Chris Wolter’s win on the Men’s side, with Artem Khalyavin of Russia taking the third.
